The gala conference of the project Transdanube.Pearls

On First March in Belgrade, Tulip Inn Hotel, RARIS has hosted an international Kick-off Conference of the project TransDanube.Pearls - Network for sustainable mobility along the Danube. The conference was preceded by a two-day meeting of partners dedicated to the methods of implementation of the project. Transdanube.Pearls project will be implemented in the framework of the Danube Program and funded by the European Union. The leading partner of this project is the Austrian Environment Agency together with 15 partner organizations from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia.

Danube Region is one of the most promising tourist destinations in Europe. Most travels in the Danube region are taken by car, which has a negative impact on the environment and the population. TransDanube.Pearls project aims to establish a sustainable transport in tourism along the Danube through the construction of a network of sustainable transport.

The conference was attended by 120 officials from organizations and institutions from 9 countries.

The project is important for the Serbia for the following reasons:

  • Preliminary feasibility study for the construction of rental bicycles and/or e-bikes in the area of "Iron Gate" will be devoleped;
  • It will help a better systematization and greater availability of traffic information;
  • The destination to become a "pearl" of the Danube will be selected; it will be included in the European tourism product "Pearls of the Danube"

The central element of the project is to establish a network of destinations ("Danube.Pearls") dedicated to sustainable transport for tourists and residents along the Danube that support international cooperation between the various actors from traffic and tourism. Development of common standards and transnational organizational structure will ensure the continued operation of the network and the completion of the project. The project will work on the development of sustainable transport services and improve the combination of different means of transport within and between destinations. The establishment of regional centers and the formation of information platform for transport will contribute to greater use of sustainable means of transport in the Danube region.
