Roundtable “Regional Development Strategies – support to sustainable and inclusive growth - Serbian case” held

Regional Development Agency Eastern Serbia – RARIS together with National Agency for Regional Development - NARD and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Regional development and project Municipal Economic Development in Danube region (GIZ-KWD) held a Round table „Regional Development Strategy – a support for an overall sustainable development-Serbian Case “ on 20th September 2011 in the Large Hall of City Administration Building Zajecar.

The Round table was organized as a part of a European big traditional event - the “OPEN DAYS-European Week of Regions and Cities” held every year in November in Brussels.

The Speakers at the Roundtable were:

  • Mrs Dragijana Radonjić Petrović, State Secretary, Ministry of Economy and Regional Development
  • Mr Ivica Eždenci, Director, National Agency for Regional Development
  • Mr Sjaak Boeckhout, Team Leader/Regional Development Advisor Assistance to Regional Policy Development at National Level
  • Mr Mijat Damjanović, Representative on National Development Council
  • Mr Borislav Stojkov, Director, Republic Agency for Spatial Planning
  • Mr Alexander Grunauer, Team Leader, Project “Municipal Economic Development in the Danube region”
  • Mrs Biljana Stanković, Director, Centre for Development of Jablanica and Pčinja District

The participants of the panel discussion have been acquainted to activities which the responsible institutions, with the support of international programmes, are preparing in development of the National and regional development strategies in line with the new Law on Regional Development. The importance which regional strategies give to the sustainable and comprehensive development of Serbia is emphasized. The need for all stakeholders to actively participate in the participative process of development of these development strategies has been particularly emphasized.
