Eastern Serbia breaks records in tourism

Last year, 2022. according to the latest data, was the most successful year ever for tourism in Eastern Serbia.

RARIS - Regional Development Agency Eastern Serbia analyzed data about the number of tourist arrivals and overnights, which show that Eastern Serbia is a big rise destination.

Several records were broken last year:

  • Eastern Serbia was visited by 294.664 tourists - which is the highest number of tourist arrivals in history and, by comparison, twice as many arrivals as in 2011;
  • Sokobanja was visited by 161.284 tourists - which is the highest number of tourist arrivals in the history of Sokobanja;
  • They achieved 783.205 overnight stays and after that Sokobanja is the second destination in Serbia, behind Belgrade but ahead of Vrnjacka Banja, Zlatibor, Kopaonik and Novi Sad;
  • There were 103.743 overnight stays by tourists in Knjazevac - which is the highest number of overnight stays in the history of Knjazevac and, by comparison, 7 times more overnight stays than in 2010;
  • There were 55.126 overnight stays in Boljevac - which is the highest number of overnight stays in the history of Boljevac and, by comparison, even 10 times more overnight stays than in 2014;
  • There were 22.791 overnight stays by foreign tourists in Kladovo - which is the highest number of overnight stays by foreign tourists in the history of Kladovo.

In Eastern Serbia is the oldest urban settlement in Europe, here Roman emperors built palaces and modern builders tamed the Danube.

Here is true untouched nature, mountains ready for adventure, spas for relaxation and caves for exploration.

This is where reality becomes magic.

Only in Eastern Serbia, during the same day, you can:

  • to go fishing or sailing on the Danube, relax in one of the spas or ski at one of the ski resorts,
  • to be at an altitude below the level of the Danube in Negotin lowland and at 2.169 m in Stara Planina.

In Eastern Serbia successfully operated 2.900 tourist facilities with 9.000 beds, and there are numerous examples of new investments in which more beds are required. Extensive interventions are underway to improve the transport infrastructure in the region and the travel infrastructure is now ready to accept tourists. The reconstruction of the Fetislam fortress has begun, but soon will begin the construction of the Visitor Center on Felix Romuliani (UNESCO) and the communal arrangement on the Rajac wine cellars.
