Partners on Rural green project have met in Vidin, Bulgaria from 08-10th of October 2024
Within the project “Rural Green”, Creativity Marathon “Opportunities and Barriers for Circular Economy in Rural Areas” was organized in Vidin, Bulgaria from 08-10th of October 2024 and has gathered 48 participants from five countries – Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia.
After the welcoming speeches by Mr. Krasimir Kirilov – Chairperson of VDCCI – host of the event, Deputy Mayor of Municipality of Vidin – Mrs. Desislava Todorova and Vladan Jeremic – Director of RARIS – lead partner by the project, participants have discussed and presented the challenges, achievements and future perspective in EU green policies, greening of rural economy, opportunities and barriers for women dealing with circular economy in rural areas and European environment preservation models.
The participants had opportunity to visit several good examples of circular economy projects around the city of Vidin – High school Arsen Zlatarov, pellet and solar energy company in village of Ruzhinci, “Madona inn” tourist resort in village of Falkovets and tourist site “Bebeca” in the city of Belogradchik.
Participants on the Creativity marathon has concluded that circular economy offers a transformative approach to rural economic development by fostering sustainable practices, reducing waste, and maximizing the use of resources. The project is closely aligned with many of the challenges, opportunities, and achievements highlighted in the EU’s broader environmental and rural development policies. Specifically, the circular economy framework can help rural areas overcome barriers related to resource management, economic diversification, and environmental sustainability.
